The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

Sara Lou O'Connor came to Penn State because her mother, Sylvia O'Connor, had taken a position as administrator of the medical school in Hershey. Sara Lou and her brother, Bill, both transferred from University of Florida and both completed their undergraduate degrees at Penn State. Penn State became home to all of us during our years at State College and Hershey. Bill received a BS in Speech Pathology & Audiology; Sara Lou received a BA in English Literature. Both went on to get Masters in their fields, Sara Lou's in English, Creative Writing. She still tells everyone that of all the schools she attended, Penn State was the best all around, for academic excellence, for diversity, for allowing creative learning, for fostering a community spirit, for creating an environment that while focused on education also felt like a home. Sara Lou began her professional career as a medical writer while still a student at PSU, continued it through her MA, and also her MFA, in Film Production, at USC Film School. She is now on what may be her last degree, a PsyD in Clinical Psychology. Working on her dissertation about the unconscious causes of pain and illness, not a day goes by Sara Lou does not wish she could be doing this degree at PSU, but sigh, maybe someday, she will return to the school that felt like a nurturing home.
